Happy Sunday! and welcome to The Beautiful Chaos - my personal journal of smallholding and renovating adventures as an unschooling family of six. I write about things that are important to me - Nature, Naturopathy, self-sustained living, health and homes, organic gardening and raising animals. Plus other things that make me who I am, and are a part of my story. This publication is for paid subscribers, but the first part is free to read for everyone. Paid subscribers can read the whole post plus access accompanying images in addition to the full archive of publications, my back story plus all additional resources available here (which you can read more of on the about page). For less than the cost of a fancy collagen latte every month you will have access to so much extra content not to mention you’ll be supporting my work so I can keep creating MORE of this for you. Thank you x
Sovereignty.
No word has stuck out more post-covid which seems to capture a zeitgeist mindset on the way many of us are seeking to live life. With more and more questioning the mainstream narratives - a seeking of more authority over all aspects of our lives, the word sovereign is becoming fairly commonplace and this really interests me. At first I heard this expression to sound a bit imperial or even vaguely royal. It’s a funny word really but I see now it carries a weight of meaning about the the self, and so I wanted to talk a little bit about what that means to me.
I feel sovereignty as a self-powered concept that encompasses the ability of an individual or community to live independently and free from external control. This notion extends beyond political autonomy - though we can’t ignore what a tight-hold governments are increasingly having upon our structures today! Sovereignty describes self-sustainability, a freedom mindset, freedom in health choices, education and the ability to generate and freely control our own wealth. Sovereign wealth looks different to a mainstream corporate ideal. It’s not merely about accumulating financial assets but also about creating diverse streams of income and preserving value in tangible forms. Investing in land, precious metals, and skills that offer economic resilience are assets that feel not only more valuable, but more autonomous. Building businesses that align with personal values and serve the community for sure provide financial stability and foster a sense of purpose. Is it risk-free? certainly not but steeped in self-responsibility; it absolutely is.
The world is becoming dizzyingly reliant on centralised systems. The speed at which a seemingly controllable ‘grid’ is being formed and how smooth, safe and soft this is being sold to us as - the more I feel the pursuit of sovereignty for myself and my family.
Ultra surveillance and automations, cashless systems, MRNA injected into humans and livestock, agenda-schooling and cancel culture, fluoridating water and controlled food distribution does not make me feel safe. This makes me feel very anxious indeed about our futures and drives a deeper desire to sever our dependence on the state and foster a self-reliant, empowered existence for our futures.
These themes had been rumbling around since before 2019. I felt an impalpable shift in modern culture even before covid landed. Under the guise of colourful rainbows, marching for peace and inclusivity there lurked a sense that there was something bigger behind all this. Who was funding BLM and Stop Oil Now? Who decided drag queens performing for toddlers at local libraries was a good thing? Who decided that trans-men could enter women’s sports and that breast-feeding should now be referred to as chest-feeding in the name of inclusivity? And, as a women’s health coach, if I were to question whether any of the new gender-neutral vocabulary used in the health space made any sense - why was I accused of being far-right, extreme, trans or homophobic? When I am absolutely none of those things. I will leave it to you to do your own research - or maybe you already have, but I hope we can agree that there is a much bigger, far more sinister agenda at play here.
And I want absolutely nothing to do with it.
